We had a small ecommerce client who could not pay big bucks to buy good leads. We came up with an unusual suggestion by asking him to sell some of his products at cost. Items that are not expensive but people buy often like cables and connectors. Our point was that if you sell 500 of such items a month at cost, you don’t lose any money. But these are hot leads, that is, these are people who buy exactly what you sell and they have already purchased from you. You have now established a relationship with them at no cost. You can’t buy such a high quality lead and even if you could, you would pay upwards of $5 each for such a hot lead. So now are you breaking even on 500 sales or are you making at least $2,500. They got the message and started doing it. In fact, they still do it.
No matter what products you sell, this is a great strategy whether you are an ecommerce company or a physical store.
