My son called to say that he was at the airport and his tire burst and asked if I could come rescue him. I did and he is back home safely. I want to ask him why was he at the airport. He was supposed to run some errands and the airport was not on his intended route. But I have a feeling if I ask, he will make up a story and lie. Why ask then and add to his guilt?

Let me give you some additional background. This is the month of Ramadan and Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Fasting is meant to help you improve your self control, be a better person and develop a better character. To encourage better behavior, if you do anything good, the reward is 10 times that of regular months. To discourage bad behavior, if you do bad, the penal points are 10 times and on top of that, your fast breaks.

So should I ask my son and risk his lying? If he does, he will get 10 times the negatives and even worse his fast will be negated. As a father, my job is to protect him and guide him. What is better for my son? Shall I ask or shall I not?
