Free Classifieds are popular all over the world. CraigsList is the big behemoth in USA followed at a considerable distance by Backpage and eBay Classifieds. Worldwide there are scores of sites that are very strong in their respective regions.

Most people use free classifieds for posting household stuff but a lot of businesses also post free advertisements through classifieds. In many US cities, CraigsList has become the defacto search site for employment Ads destroying the lucrative classifieds business for newspapers.

Should you post your advertisement in free classifieds? That depends on what your product or service is and what your objective is.

I post regularly to classified sites, not to sell but to get backlinks from high PR sites. Search engines crawl classified sites more often and your link gets indexed faster at busier sites. Besides, in many cases, free classifieds sites have a higher page rank than yours so you get better link juice. So yes, free classifieds advertisements are good for SEO.

Place Ads in geographically disparate regions for better results unless you have a very localized service.

Some sites allow graphics and html links. Others don’t. Comply with the rules as Free Classified sites are quick to delete non-compliant listings.
