Google does not mind if other sites point to your site with your primary keywords as anchor text. However; as per the Google Penguin update, if you overdo it, Google thinks and arguably rightly so that you are gaming the system. People had started using automated systems to create thousands of forum accounts with links pointing to their site or secondary sites that in turn linked to your main site. They had also created thousands of directory and blog links all to game the system. Google doesn't want to let you play that game any more. If you did link building and have a couple of hundred sites pointing to your site, you are probably OK but if you did it in bulk, you may lose your ranking. What to do about Google Penguin? Nothing. Just make sure you don't do what I mentioned above in bulk. Do it but in moderation. In addition, take a more well rounded approach. Add good content to your site. Send out press releases. Use Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+ and similar social media to create buzz about your site and let others spread the word virally. The sound approach takes longer to improve your search rankings but is safer and does deliver long lasting results. Does that clarify a little? Good Luck!
