When the airlines started charging for checked-in baggage, there was a lot of hue and cry. Their (the airlines) excuse was and remains, that fuel has become very expensive. Because the economy is down, people want cheap tickets, so lugging your heavy bags is costing us fuel/money. You want to carry bags – you pay. So we adjust.
